20:20 Groups

A 20:20 Group is a small group of adults who meet regularly (twice a month would be typical) for Christian fellowship, study, prayer, and service. In Acts 20:20 St. Paul wrote, “…I did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and teaching you in public and from house to house…of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Who:  Christ Church adults of any age, married or single.  Some groups are more intentionally homogenous (for example, all young adults), others are wonderfully diverse in age, life experiences, etc.

Where:  Either in homes (one group member’s home every time, or rotating between group members’ homes), or at the church.

How many:  Up to about 15 people- this is important, since the amount and quality of sharing decreases if the group gets too big.  This is why you may have to wait until we have enough to start a new group (“closed” groups are not being cliquish:  they are following church instructions to stay a small group).

When:  The Group decides what day of the week works best for them.

Leadership:  Facilitating a 20:20 is simple and rewarding.  A group needs to have a contact person so the church can stay in touch in order to support the group; this person, and/or others in the group, take responsibility for working with the church to pick study materials, and to convene the group, or host the gatherings.  We will support you every step of the way.

Study:  Working with the Discipleship staff, you choose a book of the Bible, or other good books to read and discuss.   Groups sometimes use video series; sometimes study materials with workbooks.

Food:  Some groups eat potluck supper every time, other groups have snacks, while some do some of both.

Service:  Groups are encouraged to act on the Christian message they are studying by periodically or regularly engaging in some ministry of outreach or compassion.

Prayer:  Each group finds ways which are comfortable to pray for the needs of the group, and of others.

Contacts:  If you are interested in joining a group please contact Sally Skardon.
