Children's Monthly Update - December 2018

Sunday School Parent Take Home Lessons

Be sure to check out this month's Parent Sunday School take home from our Hearts Alive curriculum, which includes the lesson the children will be studying. Ask your children what they learned - the more they hear and discuss the lesson, the more they will retain. Have fun discovering more about God's Word with your children!

Please note there are some changes in offerings for Children’s Ministries on Sunday mornings in the month of December and January:

December 23:No Sunday School, Nursery, or FaithSteps. There will be Children’s Church during the 10:30 church service.

December 30: No Sunday School, Nursery, FaithSteps, or Children’s Church.

January 6: No Sunday School, Nursery, or FaithSteps. There will be Children’s Church during the 10:30 church service.

January 13: We will be back on schedule with Sunday School, Nursery, and FaithSteps. We will not have Children’s Church due to having baptisms during the service.


Upcoming Events

Children’s Christmas Pageant Rehearsals
Calling all sheep, shepherds, angels, and wise men! Rehearsals for our traditional Christmas Eve Pageant will begin on Wednesday, November 28 at 5:15 PM in

Children’s Communion Class
: Wednesdays, January 27 - February 17

Each year, Children’s Ministries leads a communion class tailored toward helping children in grades 2 - 5 both understand and respond to the Eucharist. The class is designed for children who already receive, as well as those who will truly be participating in their first communion. The class will meet in Graham Library and coincide with our regular Sunday School time. The children will participate in a special service and brunch on February 24. Please contact Hedrick Lewis, 282.3103, no later than Monday, January 7 to register your child. 

Meals on Wheels outreach event:  Thursday, January 2, 9:00 AM- 12 noon
RSVP to Hannah Flack by Thursday, December 13
Youth (4th-12th graders) are invited to join us for Meals on Wheels outreach. Meals on Wheels of Greenville relies on a strong network of volunteers to deliver so much more than a meal to every home-bound citizen in our community. Come join our team to assist with this incredible organization!

Save the date for Vacation Bible School (VBS) 2019
This year’s theme is “To Mars and Beyond.” VBS runs Monday- Friday from 9:00 AM to 12 noon in the All Saints Center. We invite you to join us the week of June 24 - 28, 2019. Registration will open in 2019. Questions? Contact Hedrick Lewis, 282.3103.

Mothers' Bible Study: 12 noon - 1:00 PM, Graham Library
All mothers are invited to join us! Childcare is provided for infants - K4. We will be reading Becoming a Peaceful Mom: Through Every Season of Raising Your Child by Teresa deBorde Glenn. Facilitated by Hedrick Lewis, 282.3103.

Cub and Scout Troops at Christ Church
Do you have a child who would like to join a Scout BSA troop? Cub Pack 511 is available for rising 1st - 5th grade and meets on the 2nd Monday of the month. BSA Troop 511 is available for rising 6th - 12th graders and meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month. If you are interested in Cub Scouts, contact Cubmaster Olivier Salamin, 905.8868. If you are interested in Scouts BSA, contact Lee Lewis, 238.3869.

Children's Library Open!
Children's Ministries is very excited to announce that we have opened a Children's library! The library is located on the second floor of the Parish House between room 215 and 217 and is open for all to check out Christian and secular children's books. Instructions on how to check out the books is on the bookcase. We hope you will encourage the children in your life to check out books! Sunday School - September through May

K3 - 5th Grade: 9:30 - 10:15 AM, 1st and 2nd Floor of Parish House
We continue using the Weaving God's Promises curriculum, which is rooted in the liturgical year. Children become engaged through prayer, story, and multiple activities.
K3: Room 101, 1st Floor of Parish House
K4: Room 120, 1st Floor of Parish House
K5: Room 122, 1st Floor of Parish House
1st Grade: Room 209, 2nd Floor of Parish House
2nd Grade, Room 213, 2nd Floor of Parish House
3rd Grade: Room 215, 2nd Floor of Parish House
4th & 5th Grade: Room 217, 2nd Floor of Parish House


Infants - Rising K3: 10:15 AM - 12:15 PM, Parish House, 1st Floor (Year-Round)
We provide a safe, warm, and unconditionally loving environment for the children entrusted to our care. We offer stories, activities, a snack, and, when the weather permits, children will enjoy one of the outdoor play areas. Contact Hedrick Lewis for questions about the nursery or if you would like to volunteer. Infants (3 - 23 months) will be in room 107 and 24 months to 2 year-olds will be in room 112. When a child is three years old by August, he or she will move out of the nursery wing to the 3 year old Sunday School Classroom.

FaithSteps: 10:15 AM, Parish House, Room 127 (September - May)
A worship alternative for children in K3 - K5/Primer during the 10:30 AM service. Teams of parents lead a chapel service, crafts, games, and serve a light snack.

Children's Church: 10:30 - 11:45 AM, Historic Church, Choir Room (September - May)
An age appropriate worship service geared toward K5 - 2nd graders. The children join one of our clergy for a Bible lesson and music. They return to the main worship space in time for Eucharist with their family.

Photo Release

We love taking photos and videos during Christ Church events to build community among parishioners and further the ministry. These photos and/or videos may be used in the Sunday bulletin, weekly eblast, on our website, in various publications and on social media websites. If you would not like us to use a photo of your child, please email Hedrick Lewis.


On occasion we will serve a special snack in Sunday School or FaithSteps. If your child has a food allergy that we should be aware of please contact Hedrick Lewis.

Christ Church Episcopal Preschool 

Offers full and half day programs year round, serving children from birth to K5. We are pleased to be in a newly renovated, beautiful space in the Christ Church parish house, offering our parishioners and community an inviting school environment filled with light, love and learning.
