Sterling Book Buying Adventure: Thursdays, May 4, 11, and 18
Do you remember your first trip to a bookstore where you picked out a brand new book? Many children in the Sterling Community have not had this experience, but now it has been made possible through the donations you provided during the Angel Tree Program. We will make three trips to Barnes and Noble on consecutive Thursdays with all of the children attending the Torch Program divided by age group. Let us know if you’d like to be a part of this wonderful book-buying adventure. Contact Debbie Rice, 282.3108, by Monday, May 1 to participate.

Sterling Community

Sterling is a historic African-American community on the west side of Greenville.  For more than ten years, Christ Church has maintained a focus on work in this area.  Once the home of Sterling High School and still a focal point of legacy and memory, the neighborhood continues to deal with many of the urban challenges of poverty.

Ten years ago, Christ Church was instrumental in creating the Sterling Hope Center. Now in partnership with Greenville County Rec, the Hope Center offers afterschool programs, summer camp, senior programs and other neighborhood services.

Sterling Torch Tutors Needed!

Can you give one hour per week to help a child improve their life through homework help and confidence building? We tutor on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 - 4:30 PM throughout the school year. You don't need to be a teacher or even a parent - you just need to care about kids!

As part of Faith in Action's new H.O.P.E Works initiative to improve after school programming in Greenville, we will provide a new tutor training session led by experienced teaching professionals, regular oversight, and all the training materials our tutors need. We will offer regular opportunities for feedback, and outcomes measurement that will show the tutor just how far each student has progressed throughout the year.

Interested? Contact Debbie Rice, 282.3108.
