Early this morning Bossuet received a very urgent call from one of our
Agriculture Agents, to bring the pickup truck to Belandry, a village
out from Boucan Carre, to pick up some goods.
Off he went and when arriving at his destination much to his
surprise and joy, he found our Agriculture Agent waiting with many
members of the community. Fritznel Veillard had been talking to the
families in our Family Assistance Program in his responsibility, and
all of the other neighboring families and encouraged them to go to
their gardens and bring whatever produce they could, to send to the
church in Cange to help feed all the patients and families there.
On to the truck was loaded, sugar cane, oranges, lemons, sweet
potatoes, beans, chadeque, millet, curasole, manioc, and bags of
charcoal, bananas, cabbages, peas and other.
All these families, instead of going to market to sell their produce to
feed the rapidly growing number of mouths in their families, chose to
give to those in greater need. WOW!!!!!
So off went the truck, donated by Rotary, loaded with goods for the
patients and families here in the church, arriving here to the
astonishment and gratitude of Fr. Lafontant, Je Je and the rest of us
in the community, but especially exciting for the little boys who are
now happily munching on the end of a sugar cane stick.
How proud we are of Fritznel and all these people, and of a program
that while helping those in greatest need is also teaching compassion
and charity within the community.
I think this is what we are all about.
