Habitat for Humanity Build

The groundbreaking for our Habitat for Humanity Build in the Sterling neighborhood took place on Shrove Tuesday, February 21. There are many opportunities to serve during the Lenten and Easter seasons. This build will take place from Ash Wednesday, February 22 through Pentecost, May 27. The home will be dedicated in June.

This Habitat build is unique for several reasons:
  • This home will be the first Habitat for Humanity home built in the Sterling neighborhood. The ties between Christ Church and the Sterling community are strong and long-standing so this is another incredible opportunity to work side-by-side with our neighbors there.
  • The home will be an EarthCraft home, marked by high quality, lower costs, energy efficiency, and comfort. To be certified as an EarthCraft home, the residence must meet a number of criteria that ensure sustainable, efficient design and function. Such a certification can increase the energy efficiency of a home by thirty percent, which can result in significant energy savings for Habitat homeowners. We are honored to be involved with a project with so many positive attributes.
  • Christ Church is the sole participating organization participating in this build. Unlike years past, we will provide all volunteers, aside from those Habitat provides, for this project – another wonderful opportunity for our parishioners!

There are many opportunities to serve so please register to participate. Framing, roofing, painting, siding, interior work, landscaping or assisting with lunch, devotions, etc. There are many ways to get involved with this project.

  • Closed-toed, flat-soled shoes only (tennis shoes, work boots, etc)
  • Do not wear clothing that is so loose that it could easily get snagged on the build site.
  • Wear clothing that you do not mind getting dirty.
  • It is always a good idea to bring a hat, bandana, or sunscreen.
