Youth Monthly Update - February 2019

Sunday Night EYC: Sundays, All Saints Center

We are looking forward to a year filled with fellowship, fun, community building, and so much more. EYC stands for Episcopal Youth Community. Our middle school community embraces youth in grades 6 - 8, and our high school community includes youth in grades 9 - 12. Our mission is to welcome and provide a community that offers opportunities for our youth to engage with others, work with others, and grow in their faith with others through fun and fellowship.
EYC is $5/week or $60 for the semester (this helps us cover our program and dinner cost). Payment is taken at the door on Sunday evening via cash or check (payable to Christ Church). Scholarships are always available. Questions? Contact Hannah Flack, 672.4157.

NEW EYC Offering, ServeUS: Second Sundays, 3:00 - 5:30 PM
 
We are excited to be offering a new format for EYC on the second Sunday of each month beginning in January 2019. The second Sunday of the month will be Service oriented- we are calling this ServeUS. This offering is designed to provide opportunities for our youth to step out of their comfort zones, to invite and welcome all, fostering and growing new relationships, and to engrain in our youth the importance of service. It is through offering a wide variety of service opportunities we are seeking to teach our youth how to make service a part of their regular life. Please note that these events will rotate being on campus and then off campus:
ServeUS Food Packing Event: Sunday, March 10, 3:00 - 5:00 PM, All Saints Center
We will be packing the donations collected from the food drive. We will spend the afternoon assembling boxes, packing the food, and having some time for discussion and reflection. Proceeds collected will be donated to United Ministries food pantry.  We invite youth to bring in canned meats and other non-perishable food as part of this packing event. Please make sure all items are regular sized, not extra-large, and are not expired.

Middle School Short Term Mission Experience to Chattanooga, TN: June 16 - 21, 2019
Registration is closed

This short term mission experience to Chattanooga is for youth currently in 6th – 8th grade. Our group will serve the community by partnering with local organizations to meet various needs. In the evenings, our group will gather together and will also explore more of the history, culture, and life of Chattanooga, TN. We are seeking to provide opportunities for our youth to step out of their comfort zones, to invite and welcome all, fostering and growing new relationships, and to ingrain in our youth the importance of service. It is through offering a wide variety of service opportunities we are seeking to teach our youth how to make service a part of their regular life. Some of our projects will include partnering with local recreation centers where we facilitate Children’s programming as well as partnering with land preservation organizations. Cost: $329. Shrove Tuesday dinner: Tuesday, March 5, 2019
Youth get excited! We are going to help with the cooking, flipping, and serving of the pancakes for Shrove Tuesday.  We need youth to assist with decorating, cooking pancakes, and cleaning up. Sign up online. Questions? Contact Hannah Flack

Episcopal youth are invited to apply to serve on the
2020 Episcopal Youth Event (EYE20) Planning Team!
Apply online by Sunday, March 17 at 5:00 PM EST
To be eligible for the Planning Team, youth applicants must be currently enrolled in grades 9 – 11 and be a communicant in good standing in an Episcopal Church congregation.  All applicants must be available to travel unaccompanied on the following dates:
• October 3 - 6, 2019
• January 30 - February 2, 2020                            
• April 16-19, 2020
• July 5 - 11, 2020
All travel expenses are paid by the Office of Youth Ministries of the Episcopal Church. Planning Team members are charged with creating and implementing EYE from beginning to end. Team members must be mature in their faith and able to commit to the work and commitments necessary for the year-long process of developing an international event of this scale. Be Unconventional (BU): April 5-7, Camp Gravatt, Aiken, SC
Be Unconventional is a middle school retreat for youth in grades 6 - 8 and is an opportunity for beginning the Spring with God, with Self, with Others, and with Creation. Register online by March 18.
 
5th Grade Bridge Retreat: April 27-28, 2019, Camp Gravatt, Aiken, SC
The 5th Grade Bridge Retreat is for rising 6th Graders to look at the changes ahead in Middle School, both in your church and other communities.  The theme of this retreat is Psalm 118:23: “This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.” Register online by April 8.

At Christ Church Episcopal, we mark the important transitional point for our current 5th graders with a special rite of passage called the Orimos Service. Orimos is the Greek word for “mature.” By participating in this service, students and their parents recommit to their baptismal promise by pledging to be a part of our joyful community sharing life in Jesus Christ.

Summer 2019 at Christ Church
Vacation Bible School: June 24 - 28, 9:00 AM - 12 noon, All Saints Center
Youth! We are looking for volunteers to serve with our annual Vacation Bible School at Christ Church. This year the theme is, "To Mars and Beyond." Youth will meet every morning at 8:45 AM for assignments, announcements, and a daily devotion. We are looking for youth to serve as classroom, art, gym, snack, and music helpers! Sign-up online. Once you have signed up online to serve with VBS you will receive a packet in the mail with more details in regard with how to indicate which area of VBS you would like to assist with. Questions? Art Camp: July 29 - August 2, 9:00 AM - 12 noon, All Saints Center
Youth! We are looking for volunteers to serve with our annual Art Camp at Christ Church. Art Camp will be held the week of July 29 - August 2 from 9:00 AM - 12 noon in the All Saints Center. Youth will meet every morning at 8:45 AM for assignments, announcements, and a daily devotion. We are looking for youth to serve in the art classrooms. Youth will also serve in the gym, assist with the daily snack, and with the music class! Sign-up online. Boy Scouts
This is the traditional Scouting experience for young men. With more than 130 Merit Badges, from Archery and Art to Welding and Wilderness Survival, Scouting is the ultimate form of learning by doing. Boy Scouts explore their interests and improve their skills while working toward Scouting's highest rank: Eagle. By imagining, planning, then doing their own service projects, Boy Scouts learn the value of hard work and experience the thrill of seeing it pay off. Add in outdoor adventures, hiking, and camping, and Scouting gives boys all the experience they need to become men.

Troop 511 welcomes young men ages 11 - 17. We typically meet for an hour the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, plus one outdoor adventure each month. We also spend a week at summer camp.

Can you help with EYC Dinner in 2019?
We are looking forward to resuming our weekly youth group Sunday evening programming on Sunday, January 6, 2019. We are looking for volunteers to help provide dinner for middle and high school youth on Sunday nights for EYC. Youth enjoy dinner from 6:00 - 6:30 PM in the All Saints Center lobby. We are looking for helpers to assist with set-up and clean up, picking up catering orders or bringing desserts. Sign up online.

Can you help with Sunday School breakfast in 2019?
We are looking for volunteers to help provide breakfast to our middle and high school youth from 9:15 - 9:30 AM in the All Saints Center. We are looking for helpers to assist with bringing in bagels, doughnuts, or other simple breakfast items. Sign up online. Questions? Contact Hannah Flack
