Pastoral Care

"…for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me…"  – Matthew 25:35

Pastoral Care at Christ Church extends beyond the traditional yet important expectations of ministry at the time of death or a visit to the hospital. It is the ministry of us all, both clergy and laity, to bring kindness, care, or simply a presence to those in need or joy.

Through our Pastoral Care ministry, we share in sorrows and joys as we accompany our church family on their individual journeys.  Over twenty opportunities for ministry under the headings VISIT, PRAY, SUPPORT, and LEND A HAND help us carry out the Pastoral Care ministry at Christ Church.  Whether you are in need or wish to offer support to others, there is a place for everyone within this broad ministry to serve Christ by responding in love to the needs of our church.

Pastoral Care may mean a call to one preparing for surgery or a joyful visit to a newborn. It could include a note of encouragement to someone facing a life crisis or a message of congratulations to those proud parents.  Pastoral Care is a woman comforting a worried friend or a priest holding the hand of one who struggles with her faith. It means hosting gatherings for new babies and moms or gathering together to cook for fellow parishioners, knit adorable burp cloths for baby, or share laughs with good friends. It is a prayerful moment, a well-spoken word, or a simple, necessary silence. Guidance to those making difficult family choices or supporting those who have no family at all, the needs, both spiritual and emotional, are personal, private, and very real.
