What a weekend we had with Becca and Marcus!
One Love, One Weekend, as you would expect, filled us with so many warm emotions and evoked a sense of togetherness that was so welcome.
We kicked off the weekend Friday evening at Judson Mill with Starry Nights and Broken Roads, an intimate evening of story telling and music. Becca’s stories touched on the love of family, being where your feet are and courageousness in faith while sprinkling in her charm and humor. In between Becca’s stories, Marcus told tales of his own before launching into song on the guitar or piano. He discussed how beautiful things (and songs) can blossom out of failure while telling inspiring stories about his experience at the Grammys and working with amazing artists.
On Friday night we were also introduced to Thistle Farms and two survivors, Sheila and Kim, who work for the foundation and have incredible stories of their own. They brought a sampling of Thistle Farms products, and I think there were more than a few people who got their hands on some great stocking stuffers while giving money to an amazing cause.
On Saturday, the adults enjoyed a session with Becca that discussed loving God, loving our neighbor and loving ourselves. Newcomers attending the weekend gathered after the Saturday session for additional fellowship and prior to Sunday’s session to learn more about ministry and outreach opportunities at Christ Church. Meanwhile, the kids’ Fall Faith Festival was in full swing. The children played games, enjoyed the petting zoo, sang songs and made crafts, including over 50 soaps to give to clients of The Dream Center.
The Dream Center — what a great partnership! In case you missed it, The Dream Center’s goal is to encourage, educate and empower people in need through the love of Jesus Christ. When someone attends a class at The Dream Center, they are able to earn Dream Dollars that they then can use to purchase personal hygiene items from the organization’s General Store. Parishioners really showed up by purchasing item’s from The Dream Center’s wish list to help stock the store. And if you’d still like to donate, you can find their Amazon Wish List here.
The Sunday morning Breakfast with Becca was intimate and relaxed, and in true Becca style she came sans shoes. Becca shared her wisdom on the Great Thanksgiving and the importance of community. We ate Karen’s famous cinnamon rolls before heading into 10:30 church, where Becca gave a wonderful sermon on The Good Samaritan. Click here to see the sermon.
Another important theme of the weekend was stewardship. When we love ourselves and love our neighbors, we make offerings to the church that amplify the love-giving ministries that can be offered at Christ Church. Following Becca’s sermon that tied in the theme of stewardship, the Annual Giving Cabinet took all the pledges that have been received so far and lovingly offered them for a blessing at the altar. If you would like to participate with your own pledge of support for the church in 2025, please click here.
And while all of this went down in Greenville, the a lot of fun was had by all at the Fall Youth Retreat! The group of 20 took an open-air hummer up to the top of a mountain, took horses on a trail ride, zip lined into the lake and so much more! The theme for the weekend was Love Your Neighbor, and the youth group learned all about the Bible stories that show us how to do just that. See below for photos.
What a revelatory and inspiring weekend we shared. We were so thankful to come together as a community, and we want to thank everyone who attended!
