Meet our New Staff - Greta Parkinson & Carrie Moore

We're so pleased to introduce our newest staff members!

Wellness Coordinator

Greta Parkinson

Where did you work before Christ Church?
I have a private practice, Well Minds First, where I offer counseling, coaching, and presentations. Before that, I had a private practice in Beaufort, SC where I offered services to adults, children and families. I began my counseling career working with the Department of Mental Health as a counselor and legislative liaison, and later as the Director of Child, Adolescent, and Family services for Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens counties.

Tell us about your day-to-day activities as Wellness Coordinator.

My role as Wellness Coordinator is evolving. Since it is a new ministry, I am eagerly gathering information about the wellness needs of the parish and the staff. I attend meetings, prepare educational materials on wellness that drop on the first Wednesday of each month via the blog on the website and on social media. I have several other plans that are currently being developed for sharing and educating our staff and parishioners. More on that later and more to be discovered and uncovered. Stay tuned!

What is your favorite thing about your career?

The greatest joy in my career has been providing hope, a smile and laughter, and a new perspective to those who are weighed down, feeling anxious, or stuck in negative thoughts and behaviors. I feel so blessed to have this opportunity to bring my skills to a church community where I can help prepare disciples to follow Jesus’s commands to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love your neighbor as yourself.

What are you most excited about working on staff at Christ Church?

I am most excited about working with this team of energetic, compassionate community of believers who support and carry out the mission of our church to Embrace, Equip, and
Empower Apostles to Serve Jesus Christ!

What’s one work-related goal you want to accomplish in the next year?

To have our parishioners and staff eagerly embrace all domains of wellness, with an excitement for giving their mental, emotional, and spiritual health the same priority as their physical health.

How do you take your coffee?

Black at home, cream and sugar when out. I really prefer Lady Gray Tea with a teaspoonful of honey.

Tell us about your family (furry friends included).

Together, Brown and I joyfully share 6 children and 6 grandchildren. Last year we added a mini Bernadoodle to our family. Her name is Reedy, and she has brought us much joy as well!

What would you sing at Karaoke night?

Sit Down and Talk To Me by Lou Rawls. Appropriate enough, right? Any beach music song elicits energetic singing, and shagging if the opportunity is there. I have a dear friend who would shag with the doorknob if no partner was available.

What do you like to do on a day off?

I have many hobbies and interests…too many to include here. When my day off coincides with a weekend, I like to head to the Low Country to be renewed by the scent of the pluff mud at low tide, the sights of moss-draped oaks, palmettos, and shorebirds, and invigorated by long walks on the beach. I also enjoy being out in nature (I am a Master Naturalist),
photography, golf, watching college sports, reading and writing. One of my favorite activities is talking to children, who say the funniest things and help broaden my perspective on life.

Greta began in her staff role in the winter of 2024.

Director of Welcoming Ministries

Carrie Moore

Where did you work before Christ Church?
I started my career in event planning at the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston and at the Peace Center for Performing Arts. After having my second child, I turned my focus to being a homemaker, became certified to teach yoga and got involved on various boards and organizations in the Greenville community.

Tell us about your day-to-day activities as Director of Welcoming Ministries.

As an official hostess of Christ Church, I personally welcome each newcomer and provide information about the joyful community of Christ Church. I work closely with Christ Church staff and the Welcoming Committee to connect newcomers with other parishioners and ministries based on their interests. I also plan various socials for newcomers to meet clergy, vestry, staff and parishioners, as well as, coordinate Discovery Weekend and Confirmation for adults wanting to pursue a deeper connection or membership with our Church.

What is your favorite thing about your position?

I love meeting new people, making connections, and helping people feel ”at home”- it truly brings me so much joy and one of the ways my light shines!

What are you most excited about working on staff at Christ Church?

We are helping to shape the future of Christ Church - it’s an honor to join staff in that process and it’s a privilege to be able to devote my professional time to ministry.

What’s one work-related goal you want to accomplish in the next year?

Helping to bridge the gap between those who attend Christ Church and what it means to become a truly engaged, active member. As someone who remained involved in the Church for years before pursuing membership, it took one realization and a heartfelt conversation with a parishioner/friend for me to officially commit. We all seek a church home for different reasons and I look forward to learning about other people’s stories and, respectfully, being a resource and friend for them on their own spiritual journey!

How do you take your coffee/tea?

Black! I do love an oatmilk matcha or chai latte from time to time!

Tell us about your family (furry friends included).

I married my best friend, fellow adventurer and foodie, Charlie, in 2009. We have a 10-year old daughter, Evey James, and a 9-year old son, Brooks, who keep us smiling, laughing and busy! We welcomed our fur baby cockapoo, Benne (named after the Benne Wafer from our time in Charleston) into our family last summer and we are smitten!

What would you sing at Karaoke night?

Proud Mary…Tina’s version.

What do you like to do on a day off?

Get outside as much as possible and cook a delicious meal together with my family!
