Well Words Wednesday: Four Week Advent Series

Hope • Peace • Joy • Love

Week 1: HOPE

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness---on them light has shined.”

Isaiah 9:2

Hope is where Advent begins. Not optimism. Not wishful thinking. Hope. Biblical hope is a confident expectation that God is still working—even in the dark, even in the waiting, even when the year has stretched us thin.

Hope does not deny reality. Hope looks at reality and still says,
“God will keep His promises.”

Jesus was born into a world longing for healing. Our bodies and our spirits likewise long for renewal, for strength, for wholeness. Advent hope meets us here—right where we are.

Wellness Practices for Week 1

  • Light the first candle and pray: “Lord, shine Your hope into every part of my life.”
  • Take a short walk each day, thanking God for one thing you are hoping for.
  • Breath Prayer: Inhale: “My hope is in You.” Exhale: “You are faithful.”
  • Journal Prompt: Where am I longing for God to bring newness?

Week 2: PEACE

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.” — John 14:27

Advent peace is not the absence of noise or stress—it is the presence of Christ.
Peace isn’t passive; it is something Christ forms within us. It settles the mind, steadies the breath, and softens the heart.

In a season that can feel hurried and heavy, Jesus whispers:
“Do not be afraid. I am with you.”

Peace touches our bodies too—slowing our pulse, calming anxiety, grounding us in God’s nearness.

Wellness Practices for Week 2

  • Create a quiet moment each day—just 3–5 minutes of silence.
  • Practice gentle stretching or slow breathing to release physical tension.
  • Bless your home: Pray over each room, asking God to fill it with peace.
  • Breath Prayer: Inhale: “Your peace is near.” Exhale: “Calm my heart.”

Week 3: JOY

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.” — Philippians 4:4

Joy is more than a feeling—it is a fruit of the Spirit, something God grows in us.
Advent joy does not depend on circumstances. It is born from knowing that Christ is with us and for us.

Mary sings with joy while still carrying uncertainty (Luke 1:46–49). The shepherds rejoice before anything has changed (Luke 2:10). Joy breaks in not because life is easy, but because God is good.

Joy strengthens us. Joy lifts the weary. Joy reminds us that God is making all things new.

Wellness Practices for Week 3

  • Notice moments of joy—sunlight, laughter, music, a warm drink.
  • Share joy with someone else: write a note, make a call, speak encouragement.
  • Enjoy a small Sabbath: one hour without tasks or screens.
  • Breath Prayer: Inhale: “Restore my joy.” Exhale: “You are my strength.”

Week 4: LOVE

“We love because He first loved us.” — 1 John 4:19

The final week of Advent points us toward love—the heart of God’s story.
Love came down in Christ: vulnerable, present, embodied.
The God who created the stars, heaven, and earth stepped into human skin to dwell with us.

Advent love is both gift and calling.
We receive God’s love, and we learn to extend it in gentle, tangible ways.

Love is also part of our wellness.
When we experience love—through God, community, compassion—our bodies release calming chemicals, our anxiety lessens, and our resilience strengthens. God designed us to be restored by love.

Wellness Practices for Week 4

  • Perform one quiet act of kindness without expecting anything in return.
  • Reflect on Christ’s love: Read 1 Corinthians 13 slowly as a prayer.
  • Connect with someone who may be lonely—a call, a card, a visit.
  • Breath Prayer: Inhale: “Your love surrounds me.” Exhale: “Make me a vessel of love.”

Christmas Eve / Christmas Day Bonus Reflection

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” — John 1:14

Wellness is woven into the Incarnation. Jesus entered our humanity to heal it—from the inside out. He knows our weariness. He understands our longing. He is Emmanuel—God with us.

This Christmas, may you experience:

  • Hope that anchors
  • Peace that settles
  • Joy that strengthens
  • Love that transforms

May you feel the love and presence of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit this season of Advent, and may He richly pour out His blessings upon you this coming new year.
